How often do you clean your makeup brushes?

So answer honestly, how often do you clean your makeup brushes?  If the answer is rarely or never…take notice!

Cleaning your makeup brushes needs to be added in to your beauty routine as a weekly activity.  Yes its boring and easy to put off until there really is nothing else you would rather do with your spare time but listen up…

The most important reason for a weekly clean is to eliminate bacteria build up.  You are already open to daily bacteria on your face every time you step out outside or touch your face.  So when bacteria from your brushes comes in to contact with the natural oils on your face – its a recipe for disaster! Yuck!

You will also get a better makeup application when you use clean makeup brushes.  Dirty brushes definitely affect the quality of your application and will make your foundation streaky.

Lastly makeup brushes do not come for free (unless they’re a present).  If you invest in quality makeup brushes then you should take care of them to ensure you get longevity out of them.

How do I clean my brushes?

As I use my brushes for professional purpose my brushes are cleaned between each client using alcohol and then shampooed weekly.

If you use the brushes only for home use then just fill a bowl with lukewarm water and add baby shampoo.  Clean the bristles with baby shampoo and then rinse the brushes under running lukewarm water until the water runs clear.  Leave to dry on a towel over night.  DO NOT place on a radiator as this can cause damage to the brushes.

The same cleaning method applies if you use a base/beauty blender.  Soak in lukewarm water and squeeze baby shampoo directly on to the blender and rub it in really well.  Rinse well under running lukewarm water until the water runs clear.  You may need to repeat a few times to get the blender completely clean as they can soak up a lot of product.

Once clean, squeeze out all excess water and lay flat to dry.  The blender will reduce in size once dry.

I hope this helps.  Set a weekly reminder in your phone…. you face, brushes and makeup application will be grateful for it!
