Bridal Beauty Prep: 5 Essential Skincare and Beauty Tips for Flawless Wedding Makeup

If I was getting married in the next 12 months, these are the 5 things I would recommend every bride consider to achieve beautiful, long lasting wedding makeup,

  • INVEST IN A CONSISTENT SKINCARE ROUTINE
    • Beautiful makeup starts with well-cared-for skin. Focus on gentle cleansing, hydration and SPF. A good skincare routine can create a smoother-looking base for foundation, Avoid introducing new products or trying aggressive treatments close to the wedding as irritation and peeling can affect how makeup sits on the skin.
    • Products to consider for a morning skincare routine would be a gentle cleanser, hydrating serum, moisturiser and SPF 30-50.
    • Products to consider for an evening skincare routine would be gentle cleansing balm for removing makeup, hydrating serum and a rich moisturiser.
    • Be cautious about exfoliants with active ingredients such as retinoids and face acids. If you are considering introducing active ingredients in to your routine, start well in advance.

  • PLAN ANY SKIN TREATMENTS AHEAD OF TIME
    • If you are considering facials, peels, injectables, micro needling or any other treatments, start planning early and seek advice from a beauty or aesthetic professional. Allow plenty of time for your skin to recover and avoid experimenting with new treatments in the weeks before your wedding.
    • Here are some treatments I would recommend including; hydrating facial, bridal manicure and pedicure, professional hair gloss or conditioning treatment, professional spray tan if you want to warm up your complexion, LED light therapy and injectables only if you feel these would enhance your self confidence on the big day.

  • KEEP BROWS AND LASHES MAINTAINED
    • If you love a defined brow or lifted lashes, consider booking any tinting, shaping or lash treatments well before the wedding. This gives you time to check you are happy with the result and avoid unexpected reactions or irritations.
    • If considering semi permanent lashes please research the lash technicians. Badly applied or styled lashed can ruin a beautiful bridal look. Go for a soft, flattering style to add length and shape without being too heavy.
  • AVOID LAST MINUTE BEAUTY EXPERIMENTS
    • The weeks before your wedding is not the time to try out new products, self tan or unfamiliar beauty treatments. Stick to what you know works for your skin and discuss any changes to your skin so your Makeup Artist is prepared and can calm your anxieties and keep your makeup looking its best.
  • CHOOSE TIMELESS OVER TRENDY
    • It’s easy to be influenced by the latest beauty trends on social media but your wedding day is about looking and feeing like the most beautiful version of yourself.
    • Trends such as heavily sculpted brows, obviously laminated styled brows, dramatic overlining, extreme contouring or overly matte makeup can date your look.
    • Focus on enhancing your natural features with beautifully blended makeup that compliments your skin tone, features and personal style.
    • Your bridal makeup should look and feel just as beautiful in 20 years as it does on your wedding day.

Healthy and hydrated skin, a well planned beauty routine and a little forward planning can make a real difference to how your makeup applies and wears throughout your wedding day.

If you are getting married in the next 12 months, now is the perfect time to prepare. Don’t get caught up in trends and fads when planning your makeup.

The goal is to look back in years to come and still absolutely love your makeup.
