An introduction to Award Winning Makeup Artist and Beauty Editor Gemma Clark

Just another “MUA”? No – and I hate that term…

I was recently asked to write an article all about my brand.  The Editor wanted me to share my story of how I became an award winning Makeup Artist and my career highlights.  Have you ever tried to write about yourself? It’s so hard!  You want to tell everyone all of the amazing things you get up to but without sounding like a brag-fest.  It is a difficult task and one which took me a little while.

Beautiful red carpet and bridal makeup

I decided to write with honesty and authenticity about my thoughts on makeup.  Particularly how makeup is often edited on social media.  The tweaked, flawless photos can provide unrealistic expectations for real women.  I wanted to be honest about my feelings on the term “MUA”.  This term doesn’t sit easy with me.  These days if feels so easy for hobbyists to sit in their bedroom, apply their own makeup for You Tube and then add MUA to their social media handles.  This can be very damaging to the industry as many people have bad experiences with the inexperienced bedroom “MUAS”.

Don’t get me wrong, I support up and coming Makeup Artists and love seeing selfies of makeup creations.   However, the reality there is a world of difference between applying your own makeup and applying it on a clients.  There are lots of factors to consider such as being experienced working on different skin tones, face shapes, skin types etc.

I am very passionate about creating beautiful makeup for red carpet events and brides. I have a personal zero-edit stance on my own iPhone snaps of makeup applications on clients and models.  What you see if what you get…

As well as creating beautiful makeup, I am also a Beauty Editor and Creative Beauty Director for 2 magazines

Makeup Artist and Beauty Editor for British Bride magazine

Makeup Artist and Creative Beauty Director for British Editorial magazine

I write and talk about beauty.  I spend a huge amount of time working on content for 2 magazines. British Bride magazine and British Editorial magazine.  I give honest product reviews, compare products, talk about beauty trends in terms of looks, products and treatments…

This work really compliments my makeup artistry as it provides extensive product knowledge.  I then pass my recommendations of products and trends on to my own clients.  This knowledge is invaluable and I now run a Beauty Group on social media along with gal pal Makeup Artist Anna Cordelia where we provide twice weekly lives offering advice and beauty chat.
