As a professional makeup artist, my kit is hugely important and I rely on using quality, high performance products when working on jobs – from brides, events/shows and magazine editorials. I also travel around a lot for work so I am always looking ways to travel lightly and efficiently. This is especially important when working on location for photoshoots.
A little while ago I was introduced to a brand called Veil Cover Cream. Initially I had heard about Veil when I was looking for a good quality camouflage makeup brand – I had a bridal client who had a large tattoo that she wanted covering on her wedding day and my first port of call was Veil. At the time, I bought a small sample pack to try out at the bridal trial and I loved the coverage.
After trying out Veil for tattoo coverage I decided to test out the remainder of my sample on a model for a photoshoot I was working on. I wanted a full coverage on the model’s face – coverage that would photograph well and would not cause any flashback on the images. So I created this look on model Faii before the photoshoot (hair styling by Melissa Laverick).
I was so impressed with how it looked on the skin, both in the flesh and on the final images from the day.
As I began to travel around more with work I was really looking for a solution to reduce the weight of my kit bag (which essentially was weighing heavy due to all of the various foundations I was carrying around).
The Veil Professional Kit was making an appearance on social media and it looked like the perfect solution. I was delighted when Veil got in touch and asked me to review it. The palette itself is so lightweight and comes in an easy to see layout, each cream in little pots that can be replaced individually when they run out and it fits perfectly in the front pocket of my kit bag from My Kit Co.
The kit is all clearly labelled for ease and quick use (perfect for me as often I am working against quick time constraints) and the kit includes colour correctors and can be used for concealers too!
Since receiving my palette I have used it on many photoshoots – where lots of different looks have been created.
As well as creating full coverage looks, I have used it for a natural look on a photoshoot with Alisha Cowie from Tyne Tees Models Agency (with Photographer Natalie Pluck and Hair Stylist Becca Hunton)…
I have used it for a light coverage on male model Oliver Breen for a fashion shoot in London earlier this year…
I have used it to create a glossy skin for a magazine publication on beautiful model Ashley Graves…
And most recently we braved the rain on a photoshoot around Tate Modern Gallery, London which proves that this little gem of a product is also waterproof!

So needless to say, this palette is so versatile. It comes with 34 shades of makeup (including finishing powders) and the added bonus for me is that Veil products are against animal testing and therefore cruelty-free. This palette is priced at £49.99 which personally I think is amazing value for a high performance product, with 34 shades which can be used to colour correct and conceal plus powders to set the makeup.
I love this product and it is a staple item in my kit now – I can’t recommend it enough!
